I’m pretty witty, or so I’ve been told (but I only tend to trust my closest family and friends). I’m also frustrated by the lack of depth related to making peace with your fork, your body and ultimately, your life. Put the two together and you have my blog. It’s dedicated to looking at weight loss through the lens of calling a truce with food and your weight. Sometimes it’s humorous. On occasion it’s angry. But it’s always with a passion for helping to liberate those who no longer want food and corresponding self-worth to dominate their lives. This isn’t mainstream weight loss information. It’s for those interested in the journey losing weight offers, if we accept the challenge. Explore some posts. If they resonate, feel free to subscribe so you can receive inspiration on a sensible and spirited approach to weight loss. I’m always up for writing about your questions. Here in Philadelphia, summer is definitely over and my favorite season is already in full swing. It’s time for my 30th birthday (today!) and nature’s harvest season. Depending on how and what we tended to this year, it’s feast, famine or somewhere in between.

Curious about the connection between your health and your productivity on the job? Or the effectiveness of your team?
Check out the latest research in an article I wrote for the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce:
Woody Allen said, “80% of life is showing up.” If you want to succeed in business however, this can’t be true for your employees. Today’s global marketplace demands more; yet businesses in the United States are pooling from a population with decreasing productivity and health. Of the U.S. workforce:
60% are overweight
It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day…
The Phillies won the World Series and the city of Philadelphia is experiencing its first sports championship in more than 25 years. The energy here is exhilarating. It never ceases to amaze me how a sports championship can bring a city together!
I wish everyone had the same fervor for something unifying in politics, especially with such a crucial election on Tuesday. Oh, but wait, we do. Food! Yes, a solid food agenda is something that both sides of the aisle can agree on. You betcha!
Healthy food (and what is the other food called – disease food?) doesn’t have to be expensive. In fact, if you stick to food instead of trendy health products, you’ll save money in so many ways. Here are some tips to get you started.
And remember, in the long-run, food, exercise and fun are your true health insurance.
This is another great comfort food recipe for these snowy, wet and dark February days. I double this recipe and then have it available all week. It’s easy to warm up in a pan for each time you want something hot and “creamy”.
Nutritional yeast is one of the lesser known ingredients in this recipe. You can find it in the bulk food section of Whole Foods. It has lots of B vitamins and adds a cheesy flavor without any dairy.
1 1/2 lb baby spinach or 1 1/4 lb frozen spinach
1/2 small onion, finely chopped
2 Tbsp butter or oil
2 Tbsp rice flour
Spring, according to the calendar, has arrived! With that, every year, I do a liver cleanse. In Chinese medicine, each season corresponds with an organ, or a system or organs (the Chinese view things in groups of organs, more of a “systems thinking”). And Spring matches up with the liver.
So by now, you know greens are important. Especially during Spring! Here’s a quick and easy recipe to help you get them in on the fly.
Sneak In Your Greens Smoothie

1 granny smith apple, washed, cored but with skin
1/2 pear, washed, with skin

If I had a dollar (even at these deflationary rates) for every time someone told me they eat healthy when the reality was quite different, I’d be at Miraval spa every winter!
It’s not that people are lying to me. While sometimes they are lying to themselves, as a general rule, people have no idea what healthy eating truly means. We’ve been brainwashed by TV ads and food marketing. We read the same recycled fitness and health magazines that promote deprivation and exercising harder, not smarter.
For years I struggled with my weight. I was either too thin or too heavy, never felt good and was unhealthy. Working with Ali was an eye-opening and educational experience. I learned what foods work for my body type and how to incorporate healthy eating habits into my life. Through the six-month program, I got a head start to healthier living, despite some stressful times. Ali helped me stay focused on the positive so I was never overwhelmed and my progress wasn’t affected. Ali was not only my health counselor, but a true friend.
