I spent years trying to increase the amount of whole wheat products in my diet, only then to be diagnosed with gluten intolerance and having to learn a whole new way of gluten-free eating. Ali’s comments in her review of a gluten-free food book discussed the very same emotional issues I faced: becoming discouraged about all of the foods I had to avoid, and thus bingeing on wheat products till I made myself sick. I scheduled a consultation with her and then signed up for regular sessions. Ali was extremely supportive during our work together. She helped me modify suggestions to better fit my lifestyle, always cheered my successes, and never once made me feel guilty when I struggled. Her positive attitude kept me going! She helped me identify what in my life was robbing me of energy, and what would increase energy and fulfillment. In making these changes, my energy level remains consistent throughout the day, and I don’t have trouble staying awake in the afternoon.
I had reached a point where the promises I kept making to take better care of myself, to eat better, exercise, and balance my life, just weren’t happening. I had low energy and it seemed like everything I ate upset my stomach. Ali’s dedicated one-on-one attention and contagious energy always refreshed me; no matter how I had felt earlier in the day, she gave me renewed trust in myself to make it happen. Thanks to her guidance and support, I learned that in order to move forward and make things happen, I actually needed to slow down! I plan only one or two days’ worth of grocery shopping in advance and schedule small trips to the local market on an “as needed” basis. I now make it a point to walk and not drive to the market, enjoy cooking, and have a tremendous increase in energy. I regularly attend a local yoga studio, and do something such as a massage to pamper myself as often as possible.
I had been struggling with food/weight issues for many years, trying diet fads and commercial programs with varying success. As a result of Ali’s knowledge, attentive listening, and insightful questions, we developed helpful strategies to work on my goals. Her genuine encouragement, frequent reminders of successes, and important accessibility made me feel greatly supported. I am now more knowledgeable about food choices and feel empowered to take better care of myself physically and spiritually. I love not feeling bloated!

When I first heard Ali speak at a sponsored luncheon, I learned that I was more out of touch with my eating habits than I realized. I was recently recovering from an injury that had left me incapacitated for about 5 months; I felt like a giant blob and wanted to be more of a participant in life rather than a wall flower. Her passion for health counseling is apparent, and not just another appointment scheduled on a Blackberry. I really “got” how we are truly nourished by our lifestyle and how those factors impact our health as well as our food choices. I finally committed to a weekly yoga class by having someone to be accountable to, never before realizing how calm and centered yoga would make me feel. And I have much more self-confidence with my own clients.

After spending most days eating fast food and leading a sedentary lifestyle, I realized that I was starting to feel the affects. My diet didn't sit well with my stomach anymore and I felt tired most of the time. I needed a guide who knew how to achieve a healthy lifestyle without using the hands off approach of just telling me that I need to eat more vegetables and exercise without telling me how to do it. I wanted to be healthy, but I didn't want to eat salads with no dressing for lunch and dinner all the time.
I decided to work with Ali a few months after I was diagnosed with Celiac disease, and wanted her to help me add healthy new foods into my diet. Over the course of six months, I learned about different foods that were not only nutritious but also delicious. I now cook about 5 nights per week for my family - all simple but healthy meals, and my whole family is involved in this new way of eating and cooking.
I was searching for a nutritionist. Yet, I could not find one that I had a good feeling about. I had dieted all my life. How was I going to break this bad habit of yo-yo dieting? As fate would have it, I met Ali after a yoga class and started with her two days later.
I was overweight, tired all the time, high cholesterol and overall not living the healthy life I wanted to live. After my first meeting with Ali, she had me feeling hopeful. Within less than 2 months I had lost about 17 lbs, learned to eat right and never had that “I’m so overly stuffed feeling again”.
Working with Ali's approach, I learned which foods to eat to keep me satisfied. I was not longer thinking about food all day-it was so freeing. My health was better, my sleep was better, life was just better! I have never been on a diet again. Ali changed my life. She always has such a way of uplifting and inspiring me.
